Demo content and the Feature Lab

Goal: open an example scene and use the Feature Lab to see what a setting changes.

Before you start

Complete Your First Drive. The Prototype scene is included with core RCCP; the city and additional example scenes require the optional Demo Content addon.

Use a practice project for exploring demos. A prefab is a saved, reusable object; the demo vehicle prefabs are useful examples when setting up your own car.

1. Import the demo content

  1. Open Tools > BoneCracker Games > Realistic Car Controller Pro > Welcome Window.
  2. Select Demos, then click Import Demo Content. You can also use Addons > Demo Content > Import.
  3. Confirm the import and wait for Unity to finish importing and compiling.

Check: the Demos tab shows scene cards you can open. The addon files are in Assets/Realistic Car Controller Pro/Addons/Installed/Demo Content/.

2. Open an example scene

  1. On the Demos tab, choose a card from the table below.
  2. Save your current scene if Unity asks before switching.
  3. Click Unity's Play button and click inside the Game view.
  4. Drive with W/A/S/D. Click Play again when finished.

Check: the scene runs and you can try the feature named on its card.

Card Try this
Prototype Drive the basic car without installing demo content.
City Drive around the city.
City AIO Open the hub menu for the demo scenes.
City AI Watch vehicles follow waypoints.
Car Selection Choose a vehicle from a menu.
Blank API Explore a minimal scripting example.
Blank Mobile Try a scene prepared for touch controls.
Damage Try crashes and deformation.
Customization Try paint, wheels and upgrades.
Override Inputs Explore custom input control.
Transport Tow a trailer.
Feature Lab Change settings while driving on a test ground.
Replay Lap with AI cars, wreck the infield, then press P for an instant replay.

For a hub that loads other scenes, use Add Demo Scenes to Build Settings on the Demos tab. Opening one scene in the Editor and loading another scene from a running menu are different operations; the latter needs the scenes registered.

Enter / Exit Scenes require the separate enter/exit integration.

3. Try one setting in the Feature Lab

  1. Open Feature Lab from the Demos tab and press Play.
  2. Press Tab, or click FEATURES, to show the panel.
  3. Choose a category or search for a feature by name.
  4. Click a row's name to read its description and any BEST TRIED WITH hint.
  5. Change one value, hide the panel, and drive the same section again.
  6. Reopen the row and click RESET to compare it with the starting value.

Check: you can describe what changed. If a row is gray, expand it to see what the current car is missing.

The panel contains assists, engine, drivetrain, physics, wheels, camera, lighting, audio, effects, damage and system controls. Search looks across categories; clearing the search returns to your selected category. Readout-only rows show values you cannot edit.

Resetting or switching cars

Control What it restores
RESET on a row That feature's captured starting value.
RESET CATEGORY Captured values in the selected category.
RESET ALL All captured values.

These are the values captured after that car spawned, including its setup and preset.

The vehicle bar replaces the current car at its position, heading and momentum. The replacement starts with its own tuning; edits do not transfer between cars.

Keeping a setting you like

Feature Lab changes are temporary. They affect the live car and runtime settings, and disappear when you leave Play Mode.

Write down the setting and value. Stop Play Mode, then follow Tuning Recipes to edit the correct vehicle or preset in the Inspector and save it. A behavior preset can own a setting that appears on the car.

If a demo does not work

What you see What to check
A scene card cannot open its scene Finish importing Demo Content, then try again.
A menu says a scene is not in Build Settings Use Add Demo Scenes to Build Settings on the Demos tab.
Pink materials Follow Render Pipelines.
A Feature Lab row is gray Expand it; its explanation names the requirement.
Readouts pause in Photo Mode or replay This is expected; return to driving.
Edits disappear after stopping Expected. Apply the chosen values outside Play Mode to keep them.
The car will not drive Follow Troubleshooting.

Optional: learn from the prefabs

Example cars are in Addons/Installed/Demo Content/Prefabs/Vehicles/, relative to the RCCP folder. Compare a demo car with yours to find a missing module or assignment. Use Vehicle Setup for the complete setup process.

You can also drag the Feature Lab canvas prefab from Assets/Realistic Car Controller Pro/Prefabs/UI/ into your own scene. It needs an RCCP_SceneManager and an active player vehicle. Scene-specific actions can also need their destination anchors.

To change the shortcut, edit the Feature Lab action in the input asset's Optional map; see Controls.

Interactive props

These prefabs are part of core RCCP in Assets/Realistic Car Controller Pro/Prefabs/Misc/.

Prop What it does Required setup
Gas Station Refills fuel while the car is in its trigger. A fuel tank on the car. Refill Speed controls the rate.
Repair Station Repairs the car on entry. A damage module.
Customization Station Opens customization on entry. A customizer.
Spike Strip Deflates tires that cross it. Place it where tires can reach it.
Teleporter Moves the car to another location. Assign a destination to Spawn Point.

For a prop you build yourself, use the matching component and a collider with Is Trigger enabled.

Removing demo content

Before removing it, check that your own scenes and prefabs no longer depend on its cars, materials or environment.

Open Welcome Window > Addons > Demo Content > Delete Demo Content From Project. The confirmation deletes the content and cannot be undone through Unity's Undo command. Keep a backup if you have edited it.

Before release, review your build's scene list and asset dependencies so unused demos do not add unnecessary content.
