When something is wrong
Goal: find the cause of a problem and fix one thing at a time.
Choose the symptom that matches what you see. For a car that works but handles badly, start with Tuning Recipes.
Three checks worth doing first
- Read the first red Console error. Open Window > General > Console. Copy the message before clearing it. Fix it, let Unity finish compiling, then try again.
- Open the scene report. Use Tools > BoneCracker Games > Realistic Car Controller Pro > Scene Tools > Open Window, then select Diagnostics. Use a vehicle's Select button to inspect missing parts.
- Watch the inputs. In RCCP Settings, enable Show the input panel while testing. If throttle stays at zero when you press W, investigate input and player registration before changing engine power.
Check: after each fix, repeat the same action that failed. Stop Play Mode before editing scene settings you want to keep, then save the scene.
If needed, enable Show the telemetry panel for speed, RPM and gear values, or Extra console messages for more logging. Turn these development aids off afterward.
The car will not move at all
First click inside the Game view and make sure Play Mode is running. Then check:
| Check | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Is this the player's car? | The scene's RCCP_SceneManager > Active Player Vehicle should reference it. Another car may have registered after yours. |
| Is player control enabled? | On the car, enable Player can drive this car. |
| Is another system driving it? | Driven by a script or AI should be off for a normal player car. |
| Is the engine running? | Press I once to start a stopped engine. Check Engine running at start on Engine for the next run. |
| Is a driving gear selected? | Check Gearbox. Park and Neutral do not drive the wheels; an Automatic DNRP transmission needs Drive selected. |
| Can power reach an axle? | On Differential, assign Connected axle. Do not manually set an axle's Powered axle readout. |
| Is a drivetrain module missing? | Use Diagnostics. The chain needs engine, clutch, gearbox, differential, axles and wheel colliders. |
An enter/exit vehicle stays uncontrollable until a character enters it; see Enter and Exit.

A module logs "Couldn't find RCCP_CarController in parent"
The module is outside the vehicle hierarchy. Place it on the car's RCCP_CarController object or beneath it. Follow Vehicle Setup for module placement.
The wheels spin but the car barely accelerates
- Check the road surface in RCCP_GroundMaterials. A collider without an assigned physics material uses the first surface entry.
- Check that surface's Grip under power and Cornering grip, then each wheel's Grip multiplier.
- Watch whether traction control is limiting power.
- Check whether a behavior preset replaces the value you edited.
Check: compare the same acceleration test after changing one value. Increasing engine torque is unlikely to help wheels that already spin.
See Surfaces and Effects and Assists and Presets.
The car flips over, or lands on its roof and stays there
For rolling in corners, use Tuning Recipes to check center of mass and anti-roll settings.
For recovery after a rollover, check Flip the car back over and Wait before flipping on the car's Dynamics component. The legacy auto-reset field in RCCP Settings is not the live per-car control.
If cars spin excessively after impacts, Apply maximum angular velocity and Maximum angular velocity in RCCP Settings affect all vehicles. Retest normal driving and crashes after changing them.
The car jitters, shakes, or drops through the road
- Check that the road has a collider and the car has body colliders.
- Run Diagnostics for missing vehicle parts. The body-collider tool is at Tools > BoneCracker Games > Realistic Car Controller Pro > Vehicle Setup > Body Colliders.
- Check the imported model's scale and wheel placement against Vehicle Setup.
- Check the physics timestep and wheel substep profile using Performance and Platforms.
Change one setting at a time. A smaller physics timestep means more simulation work, so measure performance as well as stability.
There is no sound
- Check that Unity's Game view audio and your system volume are not muted.
- Check that the scene has an active AudioListener, normally on its camera.
- On the car's Audio component, check Mixer group. Make sure that group's volume is audible.
- Check Engine layers for assigned sound clips. A layer with empty powered and coasting clip slots cannot play.
- Move the listening camera near the car; engine layers have hearing-distance limits.
Sound that becomes muffled only in hood or wheel view may be the camera's Interior Audio Muffle feature.
For sound that plays at the wrong pitch or sounds rough, use Engine Audio.
The camera does not follow the car
- Check for an RCCP camera. Add one with Tools > BoneCracker Games > Realistic Car Controller Pro > Add to Scene > RCCP Camera.
- Check the scene's Active Player Vehicle. The camera needs a registered player car to follow.
- Check for another enabled camera rendering the same view.
- If only hood or wheel view fails, check that the corresponding camera exists on the vehicle.
- For URP camera-component errors, complete the camera step in Render Pipelines.
See Cameras.
Materials are pink, or the car has no textures
Pink materials usually indicate a missing, unsupported or failed shader.
Open Tools > BoneCracker Games > Realistic Car Controller Pro > Welcome Window > Shaders. Check the detected pipeline, complete the relevant Render Pipelines steps, then Rescan materials.
For a material that renders but lacks a texture, select the material and check its assigned texture separately.
The interface is blank, or the gauges never move
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| No dashboard | Add it with Tools > BoneCracker Games > Realistic Car Controller Pro > Add to Scene > UI Canvas. |
| Gauges stay still | Check that Active Player Vehicle is assigned. |
| Dashboard hides when no car is selected | Check Disable UI When No Player Vehicle on the scene manager. |
| Numbers or button text are missing | Use Window > TextMeshPro > Import TMP Essential Resources. |
| UI artwork is missing | Check Project Settings > Editor > Sprite Packer and the Sprite Atlas V2 setting. |
| Buttons and sliders do not respond | Check the scene's EventSystem and input setup. |
See UI and HUD.
Nothing responds to the keyboard or gamepad
- Make sure Play Mode is running, then click inside the Game view.
- Click away from any text-entry field. RCCP suppresses driving inputs while typing.
- Check that Unity's Input System is installed and enabled; see Installation.
- Check player registration and control using the first vehicle checklist above.
- Check Use mobile controller in RCCP Settings. Keyboard testing and touch-control setup are different workflows; see Mobile.
- If only some keys fail, inspect saved rebinding in Controls. Remember key bindings can restore a player's earlier changes.
Check: the input panel responds before you investigate drivetrain settings.
Errors the moment you import
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Errors naming a missing Unity package | Read the first error and install the named dependency in Package Manager. RCCP uses Input System, Newtonsoft Json, Editor Coroutines and uGUI. |
| A setup prompt about missing layers | Let RCCP create its layers. They keep vehicle bodies, wheels and parts on the intended collision layers. |
| Errors after manually removing an addon | Check Welcome Window > Keys for a symbol whose addon is gone. Follow that integration's removal instructions. |
| A running demo menu cannot load another scene | Use Welcome Window > Demos > Add Demo Scenes to Build Settings. |
| Errors naming missing demo content | Finish the Demo Content import from the Demos tab. |
See Installation and Demo Content.
Scene Panels show the wrong car, or none
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| The panels sit on a different car than the one you meant | With several objects selected, Scene Panels follow the active object, which is the object you clicked last. Click +N on the chip and pick the car you want, or Ctrl-click (Cmd-click on macOS) it. |
| No panels while several objects are selected | The active object is not part of a vehicle. Click a part of the car last. |
| No panels at all | Turn on the RCCP button in the Scene view toolbar. The panels also hide in Play Mode and for a disabled vehicle. |
| The chip shows, but no dots | Turn on the Scene view's Gizmos. |
See Scene Panels.
When none of this helps
Try the included prototype in a separate test scene or practice project. This helps distinguish a custom-vehicle problem from a project-wide problem.
Before contacting support, select your vehicle (or one of its children) and use Tools > BoneCracker Games > Realistic Car Controller Pro > Copy Support Report. The same button is available in Scene Tools > Diagnostics. Without a selected vehicle, Play Mode uses the active player; otherwise the report includes environment and scene checks only.
RCCP's Contact Support and Support buttons offer three choices:
- Copy support report copies the report and opens the existing contact page or email destination.
- Continue without report opens contact without replacing your clipboard.
- Cancel closes the dialog without copying or opening contact.
The report includes Unity/RCCP versions, render pipeline, build target, scene component checks and read-only vehicle validation. In Edit Mode it describes configured values; runtime registration and input ownership are sampled only for an active scene vehicle during Play Mode. It does not apply fixes, change setup flags or send anything automatically. Paste and review it before sending.
In Diagnostics, missing required vehicle components count as errors. A missing active Scene Manager or no scene vehicles count as warnings. Optional modules are informational. These are component checks, not proof that the car drives correctly; use the vehicle's Inspector for detailed setup checks.
For support, email [email protected] or use Contact Support, and include:
- Your copied report and invoice number.
- The first complete Console error (logs are not collected by the report).
- Steps that reproduce the problem, plus the expected and actual result.
- Whether the included prototype has the same problem.
- A screenshot of the relevant Inspector or scene setup.
Avoid deleting modules as a general reset: it removes your assignments and may leave the original problem unresolved.
Next step
- Vehicle Setup — rebuild your understanding of required parts.
- Tuning Recipes — improve handling once the car works.
- Field Reference — look up an individual setting.
